Nigeria Opens Training Camp for African Athletics Championships

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has initiated a training camp at YabaTech Sports Complex as part of the preparations for the African Senior Athletics Championships, set to commence on May 12, 2026, in Accra, Ghana. The camp will begin training on Thursday evening, following the arrival of athletes from Botswana on Wednesday afternoon.

A total of 24 athletes have secured their spots for the World Relay, with an additional 27 athletes invited, bringing the expected team size to 51. Tonobok Okowa, the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and Confederation of African Athletics Region 2 president, is expected to arrive in Ghana on Friday ahead of the team's full arrival.

The championships will take place at Legon Sports Stadium in Accra, featuring 1,000 athletes from 50 countries, marking Ghana's first hosting of the event in four decades. Tobi Amusan, a world record holder, will lead Nigeria's squad, which aims for strong performances across various track and field events.
