Kaduna State Implements Major Water Reforms for Residents

Kaduna State, led by Governor Uba Sani, is advancing water reforms to enhance access to safe water for its residents. The administration's commitment is evident in the establishment of a comprehensive plan that includes the rehabilitation of water infrastructure and the implementation of a people-centered system.

The Kaduna State Water Corporation, under the leadership of Malam Ahm Maiyaki, has launched the Surwash program, which aims to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene services for approximately 1.5 million residents. Key achievements include the clearance of ₦900 million in salary arrears owed to water corporation staff and the procurement of 1,300 metric tons of treatment chemicals worth ₦1.5 billion.

Additionally, the state plans to increase water production capacity from 450 million liters per day (MLD) in 2023 to 530.66 MLD by 2025, alongside a ₦16 billion investment for the full rehabilitation of six major treatment plants. The administration is also expanding the pipeline network and constructing new reservoirs to stabilize the water supply system.
