Fifth Batch of Nigerians Evacuated from South Africa Arrives

On Thursday at 7:35 PM, the fifth batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. This group consisted of 282 returnees, bringing the total number of Nigerians successfully repatriated during the ongoing evacuation exercise to 1,134.

The evacuation is part of a commitment by President Bola Tinubu to ensure the safe return of Nigerians from South Africa amid anti-migrant protests. The Nigerian government facilitated the repatriation through Air Peace, which has airlifted 1,068 Nigerians across four evacuation flights.

Additionally, ValueJet supported the humanitarian operation by transporting 66 Nigerians free of charge. The latest batch was accompanied by two officials from the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa, who coordinated the return process, which is ongoing despite a June 30 deadline for migrants to leave the country.
