Third Batch of Evacuated Nigerians Arrives in Lagos

On Tuesday, the third batch of evacuated Nigerians from South Africa arrived in Lagos, with 271 returnees landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport shortly after 11 AM. This evacuation is part of a program initiated by the Nigerian government in response to a nationwide demand for the departure of undocumented migrants, which was declared by vigilant groups.

The deadline for this evacuation was set for June 30. Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the arrival of this batch.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has acknowledged public concerns regarding illegal immigration and has warned that protests must remain peaceful and within the confines of the law, cautioning against violence, intimidation, and vandalism directed at foreign nationals. The first batch of returnees consisted of 258 individuals, followed by a second batch of 66 Nigerians.
