Senator Ningi Calls for End to Diplomatic Ties with South Africa

During a Senate plenary session on Tuesday, Senator Abdul Ningi urged the Nigerian government to terminate diplomatic relations with South Africa in response to a series of xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerian citizens. Ningi's call comes amid escalating violence against Nigerians living in South Africa, which he described as a dire situation requiring immediate action.

He noted that the Nigerian government has already evacuated approximately 1,200 citizens from South Africa due to these attacks. Ningi criticized the South African government's failure to protect Nigerians, stating that mere verbal condemnation of the violence is insufficient.

He emphasized that Nigerians do not deserve to live in fear of mob violence, which he likened to a lack of respect for human life. Ningi's remarks reflect growing frustration within Nigeria regarding the treatment of its citizens abroad, particularly in South Africa.
