Two Nigerians Killed in South Africa, Consul Calls for Justice

Two Nigerians were killed in South Africa, prompting serious concerns regarding the safety of Nigerians in the country. The Nigerian Consul General in Johannesburg, Ninikanwa Okei Uche, expressed shock over the incidents and called for a thorough investigation by South African authorities.

The deaths included Emmanuel S., who allegedly suffered injuries from a brutal beating by military personnel on April 20, 2026, following an altercation with members of the Tshwane Metro Police. His body was discovered at the Pretoria Central Mortuary after being apprehended on April 19.

Uche emphasized the need for an independent investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and urged Nigerian citizens to remain calm and abide by the law while the investigation is conducted. She expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and promised to provide necessary consular support.
