Nigeria Demands Justice for Citizens Amid South Africa Violence

The Nigerian government is actively seeking justice and safety for its citizens in South Africa after the deaths of two Nigerians, Nnaemeka Matthew and Kelvin Chidieber Amaramiro, allegedly linked to assaults by South African security personnel. The Federal Government (FG) has summoned Lesoli Machel, the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, to address these concerns.

The incidents, reported on April 21 and April 25, 2026, raised alarms regarding the conduct of South African security forces. The FG has demanded a transparent investigation into the deaths, including the sharing of preliminary findings and access to autopsy reports.

Additionally, the Nigerian government has expressed concern over ongoing anti-foreign protests in South Africa, particularly those led by the group Operation Dudula, which has been linked to violence against foreigners. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, is engaging with South African officials to address the crisis and ensure the safety of Nigerians in the country.
