YABATECH and Sterling Bank Launch Work-Study Program to Boost Graduate Employability in Nigeria

Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) and Sterling Bank PLC have collaborated to introduce a structured work-study program aimed at boosting graduate employability in Nigeria. The program, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the college's council chamber, integrates classroom learning with paid workplace experience to equip students with practical skills for the job market.

Sterling Bank's Group Head of Sterling Academy, Mr. Kola Oluyemi, highlighted the partnership's focus on building a future-ready workforce by addressing the disconnect between academic instruction and industry requirements.

Initially targeting diploma and undergraduate students, the program offers a combination of paid employment at Sterling Bank and continued academic studies, with beneficiaries also eligible for scholarships to support further education. YABATECH's Rector, Dr.

Ibraheem Abdul, described the collaboration as a strategic step towards producing graduates with both academic knowledge and practical industry exposure, emphasizing the institution's commitment to enhancing graduate employability. Dr.

Ma'ud Ajala, the Director of the Centre for Linkage and Partnership, noted the program's alignment with current labor market demands for technical skills, highlighting the importance of private sector engagement in providing job opportunities and supporting ongoing education for graduates.
