Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has been awarded a €117,000 grant from the European Union's Horizon Europe programme for aquaponics research. The project, titled AQUACLEC, aims to develop an Integrated Aquaponics System for Sustainable Catfish Production and Dual Crop Cultivation in Lagos.

Led by Funmilayo Doherty, the Director of the college's Research Support Grants Management, the initiative will combine fish farming and crop cultivation to reduce costs, boost productivity, and improve household nutrition. YABATECH will collaborate with the YABATECH Agric Cooperative Society and other partners to establish an innovation hub in Lagos and replicate the model across Nigeria and West Africa.

This achievement reflects the college's commitment to leadership and practical innovation, as stated by Rector Ibraheem Abdul. The project will also receive technical expertise from researchers at the University of Lagos, University of Turku in Finland, and University of Lapland in Finland.
