Yamal, a winger for Barcelona, expressed in an interview with The Guardian that his passion for football is driven by enjoyment rather than financial gain. He articulated that he finds joy in expressing creativity, contributing to his team, and facilitating opportunities for his teammates.

Yamal cautioned against an excessive focus on personal statistics, such as goals and assists, which he believes detracts from the enjoyment of the game. He stated, “I don’t play football for money, I play because I like it,” and emphasized that players obsessed with individual achievements do not enjoy the sport.

Additionally, Yamal recounted a spontaneous encounter with Argentine football legend Lionel Messi, where he approached Messi to express his appreciation for his contributions to football. He stated, “I went to Leo Messi and said: thank you,” highlighting his long-standing admiration for Messi as the best player in football.

Yamal clarified that his decision to approach Messi was not for publicity but came from a genuine place.
