Yobe Declares Public Holiday for Islamic New Year 1448AH

The Yobe State Government has officially declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as a public holiday to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1448AH. This announcement was made following the approval of Governor Mai Mala Buni, who acknowledged the significance of the Islamic calendar and the state's long-standing tradition of observing the start of the Hijrah year.

A circular issued on Monday and signed by the Head of Service, Abdullahi Shehu, stated that the holiday is intended to enable workers and residents across the state to observe the first day of Muharram. The circular further instructed civil servants and public institutions to adhere strictly to the holiday directive.

Normal official activities are expected to resume on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The government encouraged residents to use this occasion to reflect and offer prayers for peace, stability, and prosperity in the new Islamic year.
