Borno State Declares Public Holiday for New Islamic Year

The Borno State Government has officially declared Tuesday, 1st Muharram 1448 AH, equivalent to 16th June 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate the first day of the Islamic calendar year. This announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday by the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar.

Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, who holds the title of MNI FNSE, emphasized the importance of this date and encouraged residents to reflect on its significance.

He urged the people of Borno State to recommit themselves to peace, coexistence, and human development. The governor called on citizens to embrace virtues such as unity, solidarity, tolerance, and justice, which are essential for ensuring harmony in a diverse society.

He also highlighted the commitment of the Borno State Government to fostering unity and prosperity within Nigeria and enhancing the state's image on the global stage.
