Yobe Senator Mustapha Withdraws, Backs Buni for Senate

Musa Mustapha, the senator representing Yobe East, announced his withdrawal from the race for re-election and declared his support for Governor Mai Mala Buni to contest the Senate seat in 2027. This decision was made public on a Thursday, following a meeting of the Yobe APC critical stakeholders forum held on April 23, 2026, at the banquet hall of the government house in Damaturu, which was attended by Buni and Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam.

The forum reached a unanimous agreement to support the party leader's preferred candidate for the governorship. Mustapha emphasized his loyalty to the APC and expressed gratitude for the opportunities he has had to serve the state, including his roles as Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board and as a senator.

He also urged party members to cease political office campaigns immediately and congratulated Baba Mallam Wali, who emerged as the preferred choice of the party leader for the governorship.
