Uzor Arukwe Calls for Diverse Roles in Nollywood Films

Uzor Arukwe, a Nollywood actor, voiced his concerns about being limited to specific roles, particularly the "Odogwu" character, during an interview on The Creativitea Podcast. He criticized film producers for repeatedly offering him these roles, believing they would ensure a return on investment.

Arukwe emphasized that he should not be confined to one type of character, stating, "You can’t put me in a box." He urged producers to take risks on different characters, similar to how someone took a chance on the role that contributed to his popularity. This statement followed a fan's complaint on the social media platform X, expressing fatigue over Arukwe's frequent portrayal of "igbotic" roles.

In response, Arukwe's manager, Mautin Tairu, acknowledged his own weariness with these roles but explained that business decisions often outweigh personal preferences in casting.
