Jonathan Fights Lawsuit to Block 2027 Presidential Bid

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is contesting a lawsuit that seeks to bar him from participating in the 2027 presidential election. The lawsuit was filed by lawyer Johnmari Jideobi in Abuja, claiming Jonathan does not meet constitutional qualifications to run again.

Jonathan's legal team, led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN, has requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the case, arguing that it lacks merit and that they have already initiated several legal processes in response. Justice Peter Lifu has adjourned the case until May 11 to hear preliminary objections.

The plaintiff, Ndubuisi Ukpai, stated that he needs time to study the documents submitted by Jonathan's team. The case has sparked significant political debate as speculation grows regarding Jonathan's potential return to active politics.
