Obasanjo Responds to Osoba's Deceit Claims from 2003

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo responded to allegations made by former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, who claimed in his article "How Obasanjo Deceived Us in 2003" that Obasanjo had deceived South-West leaders. In a letter dated Thursday, Obasanjo rejected these claims, labeling them as "far-fetched" and full of omissions.

He traced his political journey back to 1999, detailing consultations with various leaders, including Bola Ige and Martins Kuye, before joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obasanjo emphasized that he never deceived anyone and criticized Osoba for omitting crucial information in his account.

He mentioned that issues discussed by Osoba and other South-West governors were often kept from him, which he found problematic. Obasanjo reiterated that politics should focus on the welfare of the people and should not lead to personal animosity.

He also dismissed Osoba's assertion that AD governors and Afenifere could dictate to his government, recalling his meetings with key figures in those groups.
