Obasanjo Backs Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket for 2027 Election

Akin Osuntokun, a former political adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, stated that the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso is more realistic and compelling than the Labour Party’s 2023 arrangement. In an interview on ARISE News, Osuntokun claimed that Obasanjo helped broker this alliance, which he believes will have a stronger chance in the 2027 presidential election due to Kwankwaso’s political influence in Kano State.

He dismissed suggestions that Obasanjo’s recent letter to former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba was intended to benefit President Bola Tinubu, asserting that Obasanjo remains critical of Tinubu’s administration and is instead supporting the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance. Osuntokun stated that Obasanjo was the main sponsor of the ticket and had previously attempted to broker a similar arrangement before the 2023 election.

He recalled Obasanjo telling Kwankwaso that had they agreed earlier, both would have served one term, benefiting Kwankwaso.
