Cardiologist Warns of Rising Hypertension Risk Among Young Nigerians

Professor Chizindu Alikor, a cardiologist, expressed alarm over the rising incidence of hypertension among young Nigerians, highlighting lifestyle choices as a significant factor. He emphasized the need for a holistic approach to ensure better heart care, proposing a survival network model involving individuals, families, and healthcare systems.

Alikor's research revealed a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in the Niger Delta region, particularly among young people aged 18-39. The shift towards urban lifestyles with reduced physical activity and unhealthy diets was identified as a contributing factor to the worrisome trend.
