Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu's CNG Transport Plan

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized President Bola Tinubu's plan to reduce transport fares nationwide through Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, labeling it an "Animal Farm" promise. In a statement from his Media Office, Atiku proposed a targeted subsidy program that he claims would lead to cheaper fuel, lower transport fares, and reduced food prices.

He expressed skepticism about the federal government's readiness to implement the fare reductions by October 1, highlighting a conflict with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum's position on the CNG Transit Programme, which requires further consideration. Atiku questioned the government's claim of over 120,000 vehicles converted to CNG, demanding clarity on how many are commercial vehicles and operational.

He also raised concerns about the availability of CNG infrastructure, emphasizing that announced stations do not guarantee operational status for commercial transport operators.
