Tinubu: Tax Payment Essential for Citizenship at Forum

On Friday, during his address at the Africa CEO Forum in Rwanda, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu asserted that individuals who fail to pay taxes cannot be regarded as true citizens. He stressed the critical role of taxation in national development, stating that while people may dislike paying taxes, they expect the government to provide essential infrastructure and social services in return.

Tinubu pointed out that taxation is not only a civic responsibility but also a necessity for the government to deliver quality healthcare and protect vulnerable citizens. He highlighted the need for adequate tax revenue to ensure the provision of well-equipped hospitals and to safeguard the future of children.

Additionally, he reflected on the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the importance of careful planning in public fund utilization. Tinubu concluded that both individuals and corporations must fulfill their tax obligations to be considered citizens.
