Youth Protest in Sokoto Over Rising Insecurity Issues

Youth in Sokoto blocked the major Sokoto-Yauri-Birnin Kebbi highway in protest against escalating insecurity in the region. The protest aimed to draw attention to the worsening situation, as residents have faced persistent attacks, leading to numerous displacements.

Eyewitnesses reported that the protests began after a series of attacks on communities, particularly in Qyaula, where gunmen invaded, resulting in indiscriminate shootings and forcing residents to flee. Displaced families have sought refuge in various locations, including schools and mosques in Bodinga.

Muhammad Bello Sifawa, the Secretary of the Sokoto State Government, acknowledged the situation and offered temporary shelter for the displaced until it is safe for them to return. Tukur Bala Bodinga, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, visited the affected areas and expressed sympathy for the victims.

Security personnel were deployed to the area to restore normalcy, and the protests were eventually dispersed by security operations.
