Greenlabs Launches Youth Innovations to Combat Food Insecurity

On Friday, Greenlabs launched its second cohort of innovations aimed at tackling Nigeria's food insecurity, emphasizing the role of youth in transforming the agricultural sector. The event featured 16 innovators who presented solutions, including Geocycl, Leovia Farm, and Ecobag Mart, with the top three receiving pre-seed funding to develop their prototypes.

Emmanuel Audu Fatai, representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, highlighted the necessity of innovation in shaping Africa's food future. The program, which will run for nine months, is designed to support early-stage ideas and facilitate access to resources and mentorship.

Prof. Chiso Ndukw Okafor from Cadef noted the importance of bridging the gap between innovative ideas and business viability.

Karen Chelang from Jacob Ladder Africa emphasized the need for renewable energy solutions to improve agricultural yield and reduce losses. The initiative aligns with Lagos State's ongoing programs to promote sustainable agriculture and youth participation in climate-smart farming.
