Yusuf Defects to APC, Aims to Boost Kano's Development

Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a rally held on a Monday at Sani Abacha Stadium, where thousands of party supporters gathered. He emphasized that this strategic move is aimed at aligning the state's development with national governance to fast-track progress.

Yusuf's statement, issued through his spokesperson Sunusi Batur, highlighted the disconnect between Kano's political and economic needs and the federal government. He clarified that his decision to defect was not motivated by personal ambition but was a response to the people's needs.

The rally also featured notable attendees, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and governors from Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, and Plateau states. Yusuf expressed gratitude to former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Kano State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abba.

He reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with party members to advance APC's agenda and ensure that Kano benefits fully from federal programs. Yusuf formally resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in January 2023 following a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, citing prolonged leadership disputes within the NNPP as the reason for his exit.
