Zamfara State Engages Religious Leaders to Combat Child Abuse

The Zamfara State government has initiated a program to address child abuse and family breakdown by engaging imams and pastors from its 14 local government areas. This initiative was launched during an orientation workshop titled “Faith for Life,” organized by the Ministry of Information and Culture, Ministry of Religious Affairs, National Orientation Agency, and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Alhaji Suleiman Adamu Gummi, the commissioner for Religious Affairs, stated that religious leaders play a vital role in shaping family values and community morals. The workshop took place at Jaiz Hotel in Gusau, the state capital.
Gummi emphasized that the imams and pastors would be trained to disseminate knowledge on parental responsibilities and child protection to their congregations. Additionally, Alhaji Muhammad Attahiru Ahmad, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Anka, expressed support from traditional institutions, highlighting their importance in grassroots development and the success of government policies.
