Zamfara Police Launch Rescue for Abducted Imams

The Zamfara State police command has launched a rescue operation for six Islamic clerics, identified as Imams, who were abducted by suspected bandits in Bakura Local Government Area. The abduction occurred around 11:30 am on Saturday while the clerics were traveling to Talata Mafara along the Dakko–Damri feeder road.

Yazid Abubakar, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated that operatives from the police, along with members of the Vigilance and Community Rescue Unit and other security agencies, have commenced an intensive search-and-rescue operation. The assailants ambushed the vehicle carrying the victims.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bakura Division mobilized police personnel, including the Vigilante and Crime Response Unit (VCRU), to the scene. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Bello has directed the operatives to intensify efforts until the clerics are rescued.

The police have urged the public to provide credible information to assist in the rescue.
