Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Considers Defection to APC

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State is reportedly weighing the option of defecting from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline approaches. Speculations indicate that APC leaders in Abuja are attempting to woo Lawal, allegedly offering him an automatic ticket to contest the governorship in 2027.

It is suggested that Lawal may join APC immediately following the Eid el-Kabir celebration. However, his decision to defect is contingent upon the outcome of an appeal court ruling regarding ongoing crises within the PDP at the national level.

Lawal has expressed that if the internal issues within the PDP remain unresolved, he may consider leaving the party. Alhaji Haliru Andi, a spokesperson for Zamfara PDP, stated that Lawal's departure would be detrimental to the party's prospects in reclaiming Zamfara State in 2027.
