Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Joins APC Amid Insecurity

On Tuesday, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after previously being a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Lawal cited unresolved crises within the PDP as the reason for his defection.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kassim Shettima, addressed a large crowd in Gusau, emphasizing the need for renewed measures to combat insecurity and banditry in the region. Lawal's switch to the APC is seen as a move to enhance coordination and support for security agencies to address the persistent banditry affecting Zamfara State and the broader northern Nigeria region.

Over the past eight years, Zamfara has faced numerous attacks and kidnappings, prompting several federal security operations. Lawal criticized Tinubu's administration for not providing adequate financial support to Zamfara, claiming the state has been excluded from intervention funds that other states received.
