Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Set to Join APC

Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, is set to defect from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision follows consultations with his cabinet and political stakeholders in Gusau, as pressures mount for him to align with the ruling party to enhance resource access and address the state's ongoing security challenges, including banditry and kidnapping.

Lawal, who won the governorship election in 2023 on the PDP platform, has faced internal challenges within the PDP and has hinted at the political disadvantages of remaining outside the ruling party. His potential switch is expected to occur by the end of the Muslim fasting period.

This move could significantly reshape the political landscape in Zamfara, strengthening the APC's influence in the Northwest region. Additionally, former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has defected from the PDP to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing a crisis within the PDP.
