NVMA Launches Anti-Rabies Vaccination Campaign in Zamfara

On September 28, 2026, the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Zamfara State chapter, launched an anti-rabies vaccination campaign in celebration of World Rabies Day at the Emir of Gusau’s Palace. Dr Mukhtar Salihu Anka, chairman of the NVMA, called for collaboration among stakeholders to prevent and eliminate rabies in the state.

He emphasized that vaccination is a crucial method for controlling the disease, particularly through the immunization of animals. Dr Anka urged Zamfara residents to prioritize vaccinating their animals, highlighting that rabies is a preventable disease.

Additionally, Dr Ismaila Usman Gusau, Executive Director of the Zamfara State Livestock Development Agency, advocated for stronger partnerships with traditional rulers and other stakeholders to combat rabies and prevent related fatalities. Nasiru Mohammed, the Zamfara State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS), pledged ongoing support for livestock development and animal health initiatives in the state.
