Zenith Labour Party Defends Registration Amid Legal Challenge

On Thursday, Dan Nwanyanwu, the Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), accused the Attorney General of the Federation of presenting misleading claims to the Federal High Court concerning a suit seeking the party's deregistration. During a press conference in Abuja, Nwanyanwu insisted that the ZLP remains a legally recognized political party, having fulfilled the constitutional requirements for continued registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He explained that the suit challenges the party's status, alleging that it failed to secure electoral victories, which the party disputes. Nwanyanwu described the Attorney General's allegations as false and misleading, arguing that they could discourage potential candidates from joining the party for future elections.

He emphasized that the ZLP had won a councilorship seat in previous elections and had submitted the necessary certification to the court. Nwanyanwu warned against attempts to intimidate and weaken opposition parties, asserting that such actions threaten democratic principles in Nigeria.
