Zidane Declares Messi the Greatest Footballer Ever
Zinedine Zidane has declared Lionel Messi the greatest footballer ever, dismissing debates about other legends like Pelé and Diego Maradona. In an interview quoted by Marca, Zidane expressed confidence in Messi's candidacy for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, highlighting his remarkable performance during the 2025/26 season, where Messi scored 45 goals and provided 30 assists in 49 appearances, leading his club to an MLS title.
Zidane noted Messi's international success, scoring eight goals to help Argentina reach the 2026 World Cup final. He argued that Messi's ability to maintain elite performance levels at an age when most players retire sets him apart from all competitors.
The winner of the 2026 Ballon d'Or will be announced on October 26 in London, marking the award's 70th anniversary and its first ceremony outside Paris. Zidane's endorsement positions Messi as a serious contender for the prestigious award.
