Zulum Endorses Gubio for 2027 Borno Governorship Election

On Tuesday, Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum publicly endorsed Mustapha Gubio, the immediate past Commissioner for Works, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was confirmed by Zulum's spokesman, Malam Dauda Iliya, who noted that Gubio's candidacy aims to consolidate the developmental strides made under Zulum's administration. Gubio has expressed his interest by submitting a nomination form to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A photograph shared on social media shows Gubio standing alongside Governor Zulum and Senator Moham Tahir Mungono, who supports Gubio's candidacy. However, political analysts suggest that Gubio's nomination could lead to divisions within the party, particularly among supporters of Vice President Kashim Shettima, indicating a potential conflict as Zulum and Shettima may back different candidates in the upcoming primaries.
