Zulum Endorses Gubio as Successor, Sparks APC Debate

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has officially endorsed Gubio as his preferred successor, as confirmed by his spokesman, Malam Dauda Iliya. This endorsement occurred shortly after Gubio expressed interest in purchasing a nomination form in Abuja.

Zulum's support for Gubio has generated significant debate within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno, with analysts warning that it could deepen existing divisions within the party. Observers note that Zulum's endorsement may not sit well with Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is believed to have considerable influence in the state's political landscape.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has outlined the timeline for the 2027 general elections, with presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and governorship elections for February 6, 2027.
