Nigeria's two largest labour bodies are at odds after the federal government approved a N70,000 transport allowance, with TUC rejecting it while NLC defends the deal.

The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council supports the federal government's approval of a N70,000 monthly transportation allowance for public servants, effective from November 2026, to alleviate rising commuting costs.

NLC president Joe Ajaero has criticized the Trade Union Congress for rejecting a federal government transport allowance package, arguing the TUC played no role in negotiations.
