Plateau Wedding Attack Victims Still Await Compensation

Nearly one year after the wedding attack in Plateau State, where 12 people from Basawa community in Zaria Local Government Area, Kaduna State, were killed, the families of the victims have not received the promised compensation. The attack occurred during a wedding ceremony in Qua Pan Local Government Area and drew widespread condemnation, prompting calls for justice and improved security.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani visited the affected families and announced several relief measures, including housing support and compensation for the deceased's families. However, Mustapha Sani, who lost his father and two younger brothers in the attack, reported that only two out of five promised measures have been fulfilled.

Families are still awaiting compensation for their losses, and ownership documents for allocated houses have not been received. The Kaduna State Commissioner for Culture, Ahm Maiyaki, stated that the government is working with Plateau State to ensure families receive full compensation, but affected families remain in hardship and have not received updates on their compensation status.
