Eco-learn Nigeria to Boost Climate Education by 2027

Eco-learn Nigeria has announced plans to double its climate literacy program by 2027, with the goal of training 50 teachers across Lagos State to reach 2,000 students in classrooms. Kayod Ogunley, the team lead, warned that Nigeria faces significant economic exposure due to issues such as coastal erosion, food insecurity, energy poverty, and extreme weather events.

The organization emphasizes the need for capital allocation towards infrastructure projects like roads, dams, energy, and flood control, which are essential for long-term climate resilience. Ogunley stated that climate education should not be viewed merely as an awareness exercise but as a critical component of social intervention infrastructure.

The program aims to integrate climate literacy into classrooms and encourage practical environmental action, with a focus on building teacher capacity and engaging communities. Eco-learn Nigeria has developed a learning management system to facilitate access to climate education for teachers, students, and communities across Nigeria.
