Africa CDC Warns 10 Countries at Risk from Ebola Outbreak

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), led by Jean Kaseya, has disclosed that 10 African countries are at risk from the ongoing Ebola outbreak primarily affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. The countries identified are Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia.

The warning follows the World Health Organization's declaration of the outbreak as a highly contagious hemorrhagic fever and an international emergency. As of May 18, the Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded hundreds of suspected cases and 170 suspected deaths.

The Africa CDC has cited high mobility and insecurity in the region as contributing factors to the virus's spread, raising concerns about the potential for transmission across borders due to weak health systems and population movements.
