Nigerian AI Founders Innovate Solutions for Africa

On August 27, 2023, a report highlighted ten Nigerian AI founders who are creating impactful solutions for African problems. Tobi Olatunji co-founded Intron Health, which utilizes AI-powered speech technology to transcribe medical conversations, significantly reducing radiology report turnaround time from 48 hours to about 20 minutes at University College Hospital, Ibadan.

The technology is deployed in over 30 hospitals across Nigeria and Kenya, covering more than 56,000 patients. Michael Ogundare's Crop2Cash focuses on smallholder farmers, providing agricultural finance and advisory services through USSD and voice technology, reaching over 500,000 farmers and unlocking $2.8 million in credit.

Kola Masha's Babban Gona employs AI to enhance productivity for smallholder farmers, having trained a computer-vision system on over two million maize field images and raised over $100 million in financing. In 2025, British International Investment provided Babban Gona with $7.5 million in debt financing to further support farmers in northern Nigeria.
