Nigeria's 10th House Achieves Landmark Legislative Success

The 10th House of Representatives in Nigeria, under Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, has marked its third anniversary as one of the most productive legislatures since the return to democratic rule in 1999. The House has introduced 2,747 bills, passed 363, and secured presidential assent for 72, the highest output since 1999.

It has also addressed over 800 public petitions, enhancing its commitment to responsive governance. The House's collaboration with President Bola Tinubu's administration has facilitated the passage of significant reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including tax reforms, the Investments and Securities Act, and the Electricity Act.

Additionally, the House enacted the Student Loan Act, providing interest-free financing for tertiary education. While civil society organizations commend the House for its achievements, they emphasize the importance of maintaining independent oversight of the Executive to ensure constitutional checks and balances.
