House of Reps Urges Tinubu to Tackle Insecurity and Unemployment

During a plenary session, members of the 10th House of Representatives called on President Bola Tinubu to tackle the escalating issues of insecurity and youth restiveness in Nigeria. This call was made following a motion sponsored by Honourable Billy Osawaru, who referenced the government's constitutional obligation to provide welfare and security.

Osawaru expressed concern over the worsening situation, citing SBM (SB Morgen Intelligence) statistics indicating over 10,000 deaths and 7,500 kidnappings in 2024, with significant incidents continuing into 2025. He noted Nigeria's unemployment rate at 3.06 percent and youth unemployment at 5.34 percent, alongside over 13.5 million out-of-school children.

Osawaru pointed out that critical sectors like agriculture and manufacturing are underperforming, with many factories closed due to various challenges, including insecurity. He also mentioned that illegal mining has become a funding source for bandits, and highlighted the alarming rate of school abductions in Northern Nigeria.
