Nigeria Integrity Watch Evaluates 10th Senate's Impact

Nigeria Integrity Watch has asserted that the performance of the 10th Senate, under the leadership of President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, should be evaluated based on the impact of its legislative actions rather than the sheer number of bills passed. In a statement signed by Dr John Samuel Nangi, the organization noted that since its inauguration in June 2023, the Senate has engaged in significant legislative activities across various sectors, including electoral reform, fiscal policy, security, education, and infrastructure.

As of April 23, 2026, the Senate had passed 106 bills. A notable achievement was the amendment of the Electoral Act, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in February 2026, which introduced crucial changes to the electoral process.

Additionally, the Senate has worked on restoring the January-to-December budget cycle and has addressed tax reform, the electricity sector, and the education sector, including the Student Loan framework. The Senate's oversight on security measures and ongoing constitutional review discussions were also highlighted.
