Akpabio's Senate Achieves Major Legislative Milestones

Nigeria Integrity Watch (NIW) revealed that the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, has established a notable legislative legacy through interventions in various sectors, including electoral reform, fiscal governance, economic transformation, security, education, and institutional oversight. In a statement signed by Dr John Samuel Nangi, NIW emphasized that the Senate's performance should be evaluated based on the substance and impact of its legislative work.

As of April 23, 2026, the Senate had processed hundreds of bills, with 106 bills passed since its inauguration in June 2023. A key achievement was the amendment of Nigeria’s electoral framework, which was signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in February 2026.

The reform aimed to enhance the electoral process. Additionally, the Senate played a crucial role in restoring the January-to-December fiscal cycle, passing an appropriation law for the 2024 budget.

NIW also noted significant legislative scrutiny of economic reforms, including tax legislation, and highlighted interventions in education and security.
