12 Mpox Cases Confirmed In Ondo

The Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (OSPHDA) has confirmed 12 cases of Mpox in eight local government areas. A stakeholder meeting was held to launch a vaccination campaign in Akure, the state capital.

The Director of Disease Control at OSPHDA, Victor Adefesoye, emphasized the contagious nature of the disease and the importance of containing its spread through vaccination. Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is transmitted primarily from monkeys but can affect various animals.

The vaccination campaign is set to begin on August 11 and end on August 21, targeting individuals aged 18 and above. Stakeholders were urged to persuade community members to get vaccinated, as Mpox is present in Ondo State, particularly in certain Local Government Areas.

The vaccination process will target both those who have been in contact with infected individuals and those who have not. Public health officials stressed the importance of maintaining good personal and environmental hygiene to prevent the spread of the disease.
