Gbajabiamila to Submit State Policing Bill to Tinubu Sept 3

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chairman of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill and Chief of Staff to the President, revealed that an executive bill package concerning state police will be presented to President Bola Tinubu on September 3.

This initiative aims to establish a legal and operational framework for state policing in Nigeria. Gbajabiamila stated that no state would be allowed to initiate policing operations until it proves readiness in various areas, including recruitment, training, and financial sustainability.

He emphasized that operational commencement must be based on readiness rather than mere announcements. The federal government is committed to ensuring that decentralized policing does not compromise national unity or the rule of law.

The executive bill will include an implementation blueprint for a dual federal-state policing system and will undergo nationwide consultation before being submitted to the National Assembly for approval.
