Thirteen Killed in Katsina Attacks, Villages Deserted

Thirteen individuals were killed in a series of attacks across 15 villages in Katsina, prompting residents to flee their homes. The violence occurred despite a community-initiated peace accord with bandit groups and was reported in Bakori, Funtua, Faskari, and Dandume local government areas.

In Bakori LGA, bandits attacked communities in Jargaba and Kandarawa wards around 9:30 PM on a Saturday, resulting in at least three deaths and several injuries. The attackers moved stealthily, shooting residents and rustling livestock.

Residents, including Aminu Mamuda and Aminu Magaji, reported that many families had fled due to fear and poverty, with some unable to pay ransoms for abducted relatives. In Dandume LGA, 15 villages were reported deserted, with a resident stating that no one remained in those areas.

On September 4, bandits attacked Takalmawa, killing five residents and abducting two others. The community leaders emphasized the urgent need for peace to enable residents to return to their farms and homes.
