Bandit Attacks Force 15 Katsina Villages to Desert

Fifteen villages in Katsina State have been abandoned as bandit attacks escalate, particularly affecting the local government areas of Funtua, Dandume, and Bakori. Residents reported that insecurity has intensified, leading to fear, restricted movement, and disrupted farming activities.

In Funtua, bandits have attacked despite the presence of security personnel, with incidents including an attempted cattle seizure at Unity Bank and gun battles in the MTD area. In Bakori, over ten towns, including Kakumi and Sabon Layi, have faced dangerous conditions, with reports of abductions and thefts.

A resident noted that two individuals were abducted last Friday, with many still in captivity. Dandume has seen alarming daily attacks, with claims of over 100 abductions in two weeks, where victims' families have struggled to negotiate with the bandits.

The situation has forced many residents to flee to safer areas, leaving several villages deserted.
