FAME Foundation Hosts Women's Football Tournament in Abuja

The FAME Foundation staged a football competition on International Women's Day 2026, involving 13 women's teams drawn from various federations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The event, which took place on a Friday, was designed to promote gender equality and empower women and girls through sports.

Hon. Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, Nigeria's Minister of Women Affairs, assured that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development would continue to collaborate with non-governmental organizations like the FAME Foundation, which focuses on gender equality and women's empowerment.

She emphasized the government's serious commitment to these issues, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda for women's and children's development. Arabirin Aderonk Ogunley Bello, the Executive Director of the FAME Foundation, noted the importance of teamwork and inclusivity in the tournament, which aimed to celebrate women's participation in sports rather than fostering competition alone.
