Tinubu: 13,000 Terrorists Killed, Deaths Down 81% Since 2015

During a national address on June 12, 2023, marking Nigeria's 27th Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu disclosed that 13,000 terrorists were neutralized in the past year. He stated that terror-related deaths in Nigeria have decreased by 81% since 2015.

Tinubu emphasized the government's commitment to security, noting a significant allocation of N5.41 trillion in the 2026 budget for defense, which is the largest security budget in the country's history. He also announced plans to recruit 50,000 new police officers and thousands of military personnel as part of a broader strategy to enhance security in Nigeria, particularly in regions like Borno State, which has been a focal point for terrorist activities.
