14 Wedding Guests Die in Kebbi State Boat Accident

A tragic boat accident in Kebbi State resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals, primarily women and children, shortly after a wedding ceremony. The incident occurred in Gumbi Village, within the Yauri Local Government Area, when a boat carrying a large group escorting a bride capsized mid-journey back to Gwarzo Village in Ngaski Local Government Area.

Governor Nasir Idris, known as Kauran Gwandu, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. Local government chairman Abubakar Shu Aibu explained that the boat was overloaded, leading to its overturning in the river.

The victims were buried according to Islamic rites, with prayers offered for their souls. This incident highlights the recurring issue of boat accidents in riverine communities in Kebbi State, where water transport is a major means of travel.

The state government reiterated its sympathy and support for the affected families during this tragic time.
