14-Year-Old Arrested for Stowaway Attempt at Lagos Airport

A 14-year-old boy was arrested for attempting to stowaway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The incident occurred on a Monday when the teenager was discovered on the airport tarmac, allegedly trying to gain access beneath an aircraft.

Authorities described this as a serious breach of aviation security. Moham Adeola, the Police Public Relations Officer of the airport police command, stated that preliminary investigations revealed the minor unlawfully entered a restricted area of the airport without authorization, contrary to regulations set by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The suspect was immediately taken into custody and handled according to child protection procedures, with his parents being notified promptly. Interactions included interviews conducted in the presence of the Commission of Police at the airport command.

Ogunbod Olufunk reaffirmed the command's commitment to safeguarding critical aviation infrastructure and emphasized the need for strict compliance with security protocols, urging parents and guardians to be vigilant regarding minors' movements around restricted environments. The case is being handled in line with juvenile justice provisions, with the minor facing appropriate charges in court.
